Addiction affects the whole family—not just the individual. At the Next Step Foundation, our Family Recovery Program is designed to educate, heal, and empower families impacted by substance use.
The program consists of alternating four-hour modules:
-
Education Module: Covers addiction science, 12-Step principles, sponsorship, transitional living, and the emotional effects of addiction.
-
Processing Module: Involves both patients and their families in open dialogue, coping exercises, re-entry planning, and creating family agreements.
Families are also encouraged to join our free weekly Family Support Group, which provides ongoing connection, resources, and peer encouragement.
Why Family Involvement Matters
Family therapy plays a vital role in long-term recovery. A supportive, educated family can:
-
Keep loved ones motivated and engaged in treatment
-
Understand how addiction affects the family system
-
Reduce fear, anger, stress, and confusion
-
Improve communication and trust within the home
-
Support the development of healthy coping strategies
-
Address underlying mental health issues that affect the family dynamic
Involving family in recovery not only improves outcomes for the person in treatment but also strengthens the entire household.
